All that's needed are a stack of cardboard boxes, a multitude of paper cups filled with paint, and some willing and adventurous artists. Today, all three came together...
Paint is poured one cup, one color, one artist at a time, directly on to the top of the cardboard sculpture. Not much happens at first...
...but soon the pooled paint begins to cascade down the structure, charting a colorful course...
There was a lot of patience and negotiation involved in turn taking, not always getting a cup of your very favorite color, and resisting the urge to help the paint on its slow, meandering journey...
This activity, while drawing budding artists of a both genders, did prove to be a major boy magnet...
It was hard to wait for the paint to slowly ooze out of the cup...some of us squeezed, some of us shook, and some of us pummeled the cup with the palm of our hand trying to get out every last drop...
There was a kind of hypnotic delight in watching the paint slowly travel, swirling and mixing in surprising and colorful patterns and combinations. "Look! Halloween colors!"
I have no idea how long it will take to dry or when we might move it and reclaim our art table on which it stands...
But it is a thing of joyous, technicolor beauty.
