Taller than the Tallest Tall

We have been occupied lately with building upwards, sometimes beyond our capabilities, and yet we try.

I bought these builders at Fallingwater, hoping they would inspire the children.  Last year, no matter how I tried to highlight them and hope they would be embraced, no one paid them much attention...

...but Nathan loves them, and generally builds w  i  d  e  with them, but on this day, he built...

U
P
!

As Grady looked on, impressed with his balance and steady hand, Nathan stood on a chair to reach the highest possible height.

Tired of being the bystander, Grady joined in...

...Nathan persevered, placing cylinder after cylinder on the tower...

And when a slightly longer arm was necessary, Grady pitched in, matching Nathan's careful placement of each cylinder.

Sometimes it would wobble just a bit, and we'd hold our breaths...

...but it held strong and steady...

...and grew taller and taller...

At long last, a taller chair was brought in and the building continued...

Uh oh!  One cylinder landed slightly askew, standing on end!  What to do, what to do?

Problem solved!

Grady reaches the furthest capabilities of his outstretched fingers...

...even with a block added to the biggest chair...

How powerful it must feel to be able to build so tall, almost to the ceiling.  What success to see your steady, capable hand building taller and taller, to work in tandem with a friend to create something higher that you've ever created before!

Uh oh.  Thar she blows!

Crash!

To be built again another day, another way.
