Runners Take Your Mark

I had the great foresight, luck, actually, to choose the early morning slot for playground time long before I realized how very important active play is for 4 and 5 year old children before they begin the work of attending at morning circle or concentrating on small manipulatives or being enclosed by four walls for several hours before they're outside again...

And so as we arrive in the morning, we sign in, making whatever mark will distinguish us from one another, even if no one can read it but us...

...then we can dig...

Climb...

Climb higher...

...use strong arms and competent muscles to traverse the monkey bars...

...test our strength against nature....

...(which sadly sometimes meets its match against hurricanes)...

It helps to be dressed appropriately...fashion + comfort + practicality!

A necessity for running like the wind...

Balancing...

and leaping from tall buildings...

We end our morning outdoor time with the morning jog.  Runners take your mark...get set...

...and they're off!

By mid-year last year, the class had the on your mark stance perfected...

This year's class, on day two, is still learning.

Aren't we all?
